Overview

Roanoke Cement Company, a Titan America business, is seeking a motivated and analytical Reliability Engineering Intern to support asset reliability and maintenance optimization efforts at our Troutville, Virginia plant. This internship provides practical experience in heavy industrial manufacturing and exposure to equipment reliability, preventive and predictive maintenance, data analysis, and continuous improvement.

 

Working alongside Reliability, Maintenance, Production, and Engineering professionals, the intern will contribute to projects intended to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and strengthen safe, reliable plant operations.

Responsibilities

Asset Reliability and Risk Management

  • Assist with identifying and analyzing equipment reliability risks that may affect safety, production, quality, cost, or compliance.
  • Support root cause failure analysis (RCFA) activities and help document corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze reliability data, including MTBF, MTTR, OEE, downtime, and asset-utilization information.
  • Help track action items and reliability improvement initiatives.

Maintenance Optimization

  • Support the review and improvement of preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
  • Gain exposure to vibration monitoring, condition-based monitoring, inspections, and other non-destructive testing methods.
  • Assist with evaluating recurring equipment issues and developing practical improvement recommendations.
  • Help review repair-versus-replace information and equipment history under the guidance of plant engineers.

Project and Commissioning Support

  • Assist Engineering and Maintenance teams with reliability and maintainability reviews for new or modified installations.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, vendor testing, commissioning activities, and site acceptance testing as assigned.
  • Help prepare equipment documentation, installation records, commissioning checklists, and project closeout materials.

Continuous Improvement and Analytics

  • Analyze equipment and process performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Apply basic LEAN and continuous improvement principles to assigned projects.
  • Create clear summaries, charts, and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Provide project support to maintenance and production teams while following all plant safety requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate or student actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Completion of foundational engineering coursework; junior or senior academic standing is preferred.

 

Knowledge and Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel; ability to organize and analyze data.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems, maintenance principles, or manufacturing processes.
  • Exposure to root cause analysis, predictive maintenance, vibration analysis, CMMS software, MS Project, or industrial control systems is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical information, drawings, manuals, and equipment data with guidance.
