Overview

Roanoke Cement Company, a Titan America business, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Jr. Process Engineer to join our team at the Roanoke Cement Plant in Troutville, Virginia.

This salary-exempt developmental role will support cement production operations from the clinker silos through finish grinding, packaging, and shipping via truck and rail loadout. The Jr. Process Engineer will assist in monitoring and improving process performance, supporting production planning, and ensuring that operations meet safety, quality, environmental, and cost objectives.

The position provides an excellent opportunity for early-career engineers to develop expertise in cement manufacturing processes, process optimization, and industrial operations within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring cement production activities from clinker storage through finish grinding, packaging, and shipping.
  • Support the scheduling of cement production activities based on sales forecasts, production targets, raw material availability, and equipment capacity.
  • Assist with maintaining appropriate finished product inventory levels to support customer demand and shipping requirements.
  • Support efforts to optimize finish grinding systems and other process equipment through data analysis and operational reviews.
  • Assist with process performance analysis, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
  • Participate in equipment performance studies and operational efficiency reviews of grinding systems and related equipment.
  • Support process troubleshooting and assist in identifying root causes of operational issues affecting quality or production.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving plant productivity and reducing operating costs.
  • Promote and support a safe and clean work environment in accordance with MSHA regulations and Titan America safety policies.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all environmental permits, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
  • Participate in plant safety meetings, audits, and safety improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Shipping teams to coordinate production activities.
  • Support the Maintenance Planner and Area Maintenance Supervisor in scheduling routine maintenance and major equipment repairs.
  • Assist in coordinating operations during plant outages and planned shutdowns.
  • Assist with monitoring manufacturing costs and identifying opportunities for operational cost improvements.
  • Support coordination with the procurement department to maintain appropriate inventories of additives and packaging materials.
  • Help ensure proper storage and handling of raw materials and finished products.
  • Assist in tracking plant and department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including production rates, quality performance, and operational efficiency.
  • Support preparation of operational reports and process performance summaries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field) required.
  • Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or process operations preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work in a hands-on industrial plant environment.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in cement manufacturing and heavy industry operations.
