Overview

We have an excellent opportunity for a Cement Quarry Superintendent to join our Roanoke Cement team. This exempt position will report to the Plant Manager and will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the site. Core responsibilities include ensuring that the quarry runs efficiently and safely while meeting production targets. This position will also be responsible for managing a team of employees and ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to perform their duties.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations and policies.
  • Oversee all aspects of the quarry operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling of materials.
  • Develop and implement plans to increase efficiency and productivity while reducing costs.
  • Manage inventory and ensure adequate supplies of raw materials to meet production demands.
  • Monitor and control production schedules and ensure the timely delivery of materials to the cement plant.
  • Supervise and train quarry employees to ensure they have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure that the quarry operations run smoothly.
  • Manage quarry equipment and ensure that it is properly maintained and repaired as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience as an engineer in the mining industry.
  • At least 5 years of experience of supervisory experience.
  • Currently hold FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification or be able to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Currently hold a Virginia DMME Surface Foreman Certification or be qualified to apply for certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geology, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of quarry operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and policies.
  • Competent in computer aided design packages such as Autocad or mine planning software programs such as Maptek Vulcan.
  • Familiar with MSHA regulations to ensure mining operations are safe and compliant with applicable laws.
  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing a plus.
  • Knowledge of mining mobile equipment and maintenance tracking.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to foster a sense of collaboration and work effectively to achieve goals.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and implement plans to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient analytical, problem solving and computer skills.
